ðĶī The 10% Treat Rule
Determine exactly how many biscuits, training treats, or freeze-dried bits your dog can safely eat per day.
Why the 10% Treat Limit Matters
Treats are an invaluable tool for positive reinforcement training and bond-building, but they are not nutritionally balanced. If treats exceed 10% of your dog's daily energy requirement (DER), they displace their balanced meals. Over time, this leads to nutrient deficiencies in minerals like calcium, copper, and iron, and causes weight gain.
When feeding treats, remember to deduct the treat calories from their food bowl. For example, if your dog's daily requirement is 500 kcal, and they eat 50 kcal of training treats, you should only serve 450 kcal of dog food in their meals.
