Canine Hydration Science: Why Diet Matters

Water is the most critical nutrient for your dog's survival, representing roughly 60% of an adult dog's body weight. Adequate hydration drives cellular chemical reactions, cushions joints, aids digestion, and flushes toxins through the kidneys.

A dog's fluid intake is heavily dictated by their diet type. Dry kibble contains only about 10% moisture, forcing dogs to drink large amounts of water from their bowl to digest their food. Conversely, raw and fresh diets are composed of 70% to 75% natural cellular water, meaning fresh-fed dogs obtain much of their hydration directly from their food bowl and drink significantly less water.
